一、作副词，修饰动词、形容词时
Little在使用时常常带有否定的意思。我们用它来表示并不如我们想象或预料中那样多。
1打个比方：
A:Have you got any money?你有钱么？B:No, very little.几乎没有。（=not much/almost nothing 不多，几乎是没有的）
类似的词还有few，只不过little和不可数名词搭配而few与可数名词搭配。
2例：
I’m not very happy about it but I suppose I have little choice.我对此并不高兴，但是我想我也没有什么可挑的了。
Few cities anywhere in Europe can match the cultural richness of Berlin.欧洲几乎没有哪个城市能与柏林的丰富文化媲美。
如果我们想表达肯定含义的“少”，则应该用 a little
A little作副词
我们用a little来表示程度上的“少”，在使用上比a bit更正式
3例：
He smiled just a little.他只是微微一笑。
Her hands were shaking a little.她的手稍稍抖了一下。

二、作形容词，修饰名词时
little作形容词时，它的意思和small一样。
4例：
I know a little restaurant not far from here.我知道离这不远有一家小餐馆。
那什么时候用Little，什么时候用small?
它们意思非常相似，但也有略微的区别。在单指尺寸大小时，我们用small而little除此之外，还包含有积极的情绪在里面（尤其在有一些美化的词搭配时）
5例：
He’s a small baby. (He’s smaller than average.比平均值小)
He’s a lovely little baby. (He’s lovely and small.他小得很可爱)
There’s a wonderful little café a the end of the street. (比用 There’s a wonderful small café at the end of the street.更恰当。)
说了这么多，正确表达只吃一点食物的说法应该是eat a little food，大家要记住喽~虽然只差一个a，可是意思还是完全不同的。
例：In order to lose weight，she eat little food in the evening为了减肥，她晚上几乎不吃东西。
